Spartan fans had to hold their breath for much of MSU’s first round game against the Bradley Braves on Thursday.
But they were breathing easy all night Saturday against the rematch with their Big Ten foes from Minnesota.
The Spartans jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back.
Their lead climbed to 33-19 at halftime and their lead remained in the double digits for most of the rest of the game (Minnesota cut the lead to 9 for about a minute before MSU hit the Gophers up for 9 straight points.)
The final score: Spartans 70, Gophers 50.
Minnesota only hit 30% of its shots. MSU made 57%.
Xavier Tillman led the Spartans with 14 points. Cassius Winston was one point behind him with 13.
The Spartans also beat the Gophers during their one regular season match up. They won 79-55 on February 9th.
They now face the 3rd-seeded Tigers from Louisiana State University next week as they look to move to the Elite Eight.
