Lansing celebrates free comic book day

LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Comic Book shops across the nation opened their doors to give away comics for fans and readers in honor of free comic book day Saturday.

Every first Saturday of May thousands of fans celebrate their love for superheroes by exploring local shops and picking up their favorite comic for the price of nothing.

Here locally comic fans visited Summit Comics and Games in Lansing to get in on the superhero action.

Saturday’s event featured free comics, game demonstrations, raffles and even a coloring station.

Comic enthusiasts say it’s an opportunity to reach out to all those who are unfamiliar with the comic book world and show them how great a comic book can be.

“We can introduce comics to people who probably only know about them from all the movies coming out. Therefore we get a bunch of people who don’t normally come into the store and actually come in and get a chance to actually experience what’s it’s like to actually read a comic rather than just seeing it on the big screen,” said Matt Zarka, comic book enthusiast.
