(WLNS) – The May 5 election is now less than one month away and the Lansing City Clerk is making it easier for absentee voters to cast their ballots.

Clerk Chris Swope is extending office hours at the South Washington Office Complex election unit from now until the May 5 vote. Voters can stop in at the Clerk’s Office at 2500 S. Washington Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. On Wednesdays the office will be open for ballot drop-offs and applications until 7:00 p.m. In addition, the office will be open on Sunday, April 26 from noon until 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 2 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

There is also a secure drop box at the South Washington Office Complex that is available 24 hours a day. Absentee ballots and applications can be deposited in the box anytime.

“My goal is to make the voting process as easy and quick as possible,” said Lansing City Clerk Chris Swope. “By having two locations, evening and weekend hours, I try to eliminate as many hurdles as allowed by Michigan law to make our elections more accessible.”

The extended hours are for the South Washington Complex only. The City Clerk’s office on the 9th floor of City Hall will be open regular business hours of 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
