Lansing Community College holds 61st commencement ceremony

Lansing Community College held its 61st commencement ceremony on Thursday at the Jack Breslin Student Event Center.

1191 students have been approved to graduate while an estimated 451 actually walked to receive their diplomas.

The commencement speaker, Dr. Robert L. Green worked for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as education director of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in the mid-1960s.

At Dr. King’s request, Dr. Green provided leadership for the 1966 March Against Fear in jackson, Mississippi.

Dr. Green is the former president of the University of the District of Columbia and former dean of the College of Urban Development at MSU. Currently, he is dean and professor emeritus and distinguished alumni of MSU.

Lansing Community College was founded in 1957 and is the fifth-largest community college in Michigan. LCC serves more than 23,000 students across a six-county area each year.
