LANSING, MI (WLNS) – The Lansing School Board faced a couple of big decisions regarding a bond proposal and the sale of a district high school.

In a meeting Thursday the board voted in favor of a purchase agreement to sell Eastern High School to Sparrow Hospital.

The $2.4 million agreement includes 18 acres of property adjacent to the main hospital and allows the district to lease the old high school rent free for up to five years until the district can renovate and expand into a new Eastern High.

The school board president says the agreement puts more responsibility on the district to communicate with its students.

“We have five years to make a decision and really work on a solid transition plan to make sure that the Quaker traditions continue and that those students understand where they’re going year to year and what it looks like long term,” said Lansing School Board president Peter Spadafore.
