(WLNS) – To help school districts stay out of huge deficits, state lawmakers are close to finalizing an early warning bill.

The legislation would require school districts with fund balances under five percent to tell the state what assumptions are used when adopting their budgets.

Governor Rick Snyder is leading the charge with this bill which looks to catch financial problems before schools end up under state emergency management.

The House and Senate approved the bills yesterday.
