The Michigan State Police Youth Leadership Academy is looking for 20 young women from Jackson County to participate in a free five-day program funded through the Byrne JAG grant.

Participants get to go to the Michigan State Police Training Academy in Lansing from Sunday June 16th to Thursday June 20th. When they return to Jackson, they will be part of a community service project followed by a formal graduation ceremony.

The goal is to partner 14 and 15-year-old females with mentors from local law enforcement agencies to
help them learn leadership and mentor skills as well as developing their personal character.

The program covers topics such as domestic violence awareness, public speaking, first aid, community awareness, nutrition and safety. The students also tour Michigan State University and the State Capitol.

The deadline for applications is Friday, May 31st. Contact Trooper Travis Fletcher at (517) 930 – 1829 for more information.
