The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam that happened today.

At around 11:00 AM a scammer was calling residents claiming to be a Sergeant with the Lansing Police Department to say that someone signed a subpoena using the resident’s name.

The caller then asks the resident to drive to the Lansing Police Departmnet on Michigan Ave to compare their signature as well as advising them to stay on the phone during the drive.

The scammer is hoping the resident agrees and while on the way may tell the resident that police are going to stop and arrest them unless they agree to pay the caller with a pre-paid card.

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office and Lansing Police Department would like residents to know that they would not ever place these types of calls or operate in that way.

Residents are encouraged to call their respective police agencies to verify any police request.
