Board of State Canvassers rejects recall petitions in Jackson Co. sheriff case…again

Local News

UPDATE: The Board of State Canvassers has rejected all three of the petitions filed at today’s meeting.

We’ll take you to the hearing and bring you reaction to the decision tonight on 6 News.

ORIGINAL STORY: The Board of State Canvassers is meeting at this hour to consider, for a third time, the language of recall petitions for Jackson County Sheriff Steve Rand.

The Board rejected previous petitions, saying the language wasn’t specific enough or didn’t clearly state the reasons for the recall.

Sheriff Rand came under fire back in February after a former employee filed a lawsuit against him, citing discrimination.

At that time audio recordings were released of Rand making derogatory comments.

Rand publicly apologized for the comments earlier this year.

The only two ways to remove him from office include a successful recall election or invention by the governor.

This story is developing and will be updated.
