Dangerous Intersection Proves to be a Safety Hazard

Local News

Many people say the intersection between Lansing Rd and Old Lansing Rd is a disaster waiting to happen. The Homeless Angels is a hotel that houses approxiametly 130 people every night. Most people who live at the Hotel use public transportation, but the only way to get to the bus stop is to cross an intersection that comes off of a four lane highway. The trail to get to the bus stop from the hotel also does not have a cross walk, or proper lighting.

Timothy Baise, the President of Homeless Angels says “It’s like playing frogger!”.

Officials from Lansing, Ingham County Road Department, Capital Area Transportaion Authority and Lansing Township have been made aware of the issue, but no one seems to have a solution.

“Well were outside of the city of Lansing so we cant use Lansing funds, were in the township so we have to get them involved, its an MDOT highway, so MDOT has to get involved. CATA cant do anything without the support of everyone else. its just been a big mess. and the long and short of it is, if we don’t do something quick, I’m fearful something worse is going to happen.”

Baise has offered CATA a lifetime easement to build a bus stop on the Homeless Angels property, but that hasn’t gotten much traction either.

If you have experienced issues in that area, voice your concerns with MDOT at (517) 373-2090.
