This is a big weekend for art lovers in mid-Michigan.
The 56th annual East Lansing Art Festival is set to kickoff on the streets of East Lansing and on campus.
Hundreds of artists and craftspeople will set up camp Friday night with the festival opening Saturday morning and running through Sunday.
In addition to artists offering their works for sale, there will be music from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Saturday at the Main Stage in the parking lot at Albert Avenue and Bailey Street. Performances pick up again Sunday at 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
There are activities for children and artist demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday.
Parking is always an issue during the Art Festival and this year the organizers have some suggestions.
Parking is available at the Charles Street Garage, 121 Charles St., and Division Street Garage, 181 Division St. According to organizers those garages are only accessible from Grand River Avenue. There is a flat $5 parking rate. Other partking sites can be seen here.
For those who prefer to park offsite the CATA will be offering the ELAF Bus Route from 9:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18 and 9:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 19. Festival goers can park at MSU’s Commuter Lot #89 on Farm Lane and Mount Hope Road and catch the shuttle. Buses will run approximately every 10-15 minutes between the parking lot and stops along Grand River Avenue (adjacent to the festival site). Round trip fare is 50 cents and children under 42 inches ride free with an adult.
If you’d rather ride you’re bicycle there will be free valet bike parking adjacent to the Albert-Charles intersection.
