The newest member of the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office has a unique challenge in the courtroom.
Kory is a courtroom support dog, trained to provide emotional support to crime victims.
The dog’s handler, Jessica Carls, is a Victim’s Rights Specialist and will be with Kory in court.
Kory was trained by the Canine Advocacy program, which was developed to provide advocacy services to child victims.
The dog will help ease the anxiety victims often feel while being in court.
The Canine Advocacy Program is a non-profit group based in suburban Detroit.
Kory’s expenses are being paid by a Lansing-based law firm.
Kory will be officially sworn in by Judge Richard Garcia in his Ingham County Probate courtroom tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
