Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was part of today’s ceremony for the departure of a local National Guard regiment.
Whitmer joined soldiers and their families for the deployment ceremony of the 238th Aviation Regiment based in Grand Ledge.
The Michigan Army Aviation units will deploy as part of the Minnesota Army National Guard’s 14th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade.
They will initially be located in Kuwait, then operate throughout the Middle East.
The Michigan National Guard traces its roots back to 1708 when a proposal called for the formation of a militia to protect the settlement of Detroit.
