Road repairs in Spring Arbor Township this summer have inspired the Jackson County Department of Transportation to find a creative solution to a speeding problem.
The pothole-free roads were leading to higher speeds, so the speed detectors were placed roadside and the sign-making team came up with the clever message.
Costs are virtually the same as if the county had put “slow” or “caution” on them, Managing Director Christopher Bolt said. The signs are recycled from old, out-of-use signs, with a vinyl layer placed on top with the new message. It costs $6.50 to recycle a sign, Bolt said.
A photo of the sign was posted on the Jackson County Department of Transportation Facebook page and quickly gathered 30,000 impressions.
