Thanks to you for making 2018 Annual Day of Giving a big success

LANSING, Mich (WLNS) - We're waiting for the final numbers this morning, but here at 6 News we're happy to say our annual Day of Giving was a huge success.

All day yesterday our team collected food and monetary donations in both Lansing and Jackson, ending up with more than 3,000 pounds of food.

This passes the number from last year when we collected more than 2,700 pounds of food and $14,000 in cash donations.

Remember 1.2 pounds of food equals one meal and a one dollar donation equals 3 meals.

We'd like to thank everyone who helped make this happen.

Auto-Owners Insurance was one of our biggest donors yesterday when CEO Jeff Tagsold dropped off a check for $5,000.

"We've always thought of our business and our industry as an industry that puts lives back together when something bad happens and certainly being hunger is got to be at the top of the list of something bad, so our associates have always been extremely generous and we are proud to support this cause," said Tagsold.

In addition to the Auto-Owners Insurance donation WLNS made a cash donation to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.

We're still tallying up the total food and cash donations and we'll update this story when that information becomes available.

If you'd like to make a secure online donation you can do that here.
