LANSING, Mich (WLNS) - September is Drug and Alcohol Recovery month.
It's a way to recognize those who are sober and support those still struggling.
Ericanne Spence of Community Mental Health stopped by 6 News This Morning and talked with Bonney Bowman about the local resources available for addicts and their loved ones.
She also shared how widespread the problem of substance abuse is in Michigan and how the opioid epidemic is adding to the crisis.
She also shared how the drug and alcohol addiction has to overcome a social stigma of being a sign of weakness when, in fact, it’s now known that the addictions are a result of brain chemicals.
