UPDATE (3:05pm): The eastbound lanes of Interstate 96 are open again after an accident involving a Michigan State Police trooper.
State police say a suspected drunk driver hit the trooper’s car near the Okemos exit around 12:30 p.m.
The trooper and the driver, the only person in the other car, both went to the hospital to get checked out. Neither appeared to have suffered serious injuries.
Police shut down the eastbound lanes for a couple of hours to investigate, but the highway has since re-opened.
ORIGINAL STORY (12:40pm): An accident involving a Michigan State Police trooper has shut down part of I 96.
The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. near the Okemos Road exit (exit 110).
Reports – though unconfirmed – suggest the accident involved one other car and that the trooper was not hurt or not seriously hurt.
Police shut down the eastbound section of the highway to respond to the crash.
