HOLT, MICH. (WLNS) — A woman and her mother are helping those in need by using their own skills.

They are making sleeping mats for the homeless by crocheting plastic grocery bags together.

Tiffaney Hanchett made a Facebook post asking people to donate plastic grocery bags and she says the response from her friends and family was overwhelming.

She had a collection earlier this week at the Target on Edgewood Blvd. in Lansing. She’s hoping more people will keep donating because she says it takes about 700 bags to make just one sleeping mat.

Here is an example of one of the mats.

Tiffaney is looking for more hands and more plastic bags to help her complete this project. Their goal is to make 50.
