Local tattoo shop works to provide “Ink Therapy”

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Studies show that one in four pregnancies end in miscarriage. So in light of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, one local tattoo shop is stepping up to help others in the best way that they know how.

Ink Therapy tattoo shop in Lansing doesn’t go by that name for just any reason.

“We just like to help out the community and give back in any way that we can,” said Corey Warren, a co-owner of Ink Therapy.

Today the tattoo artists came in to work on their day off to give free footprint tattoos, to shine light on those who suffered from a miscarriage.

“I had one in my past at ten weeks along back in 2011,” said Lansing resident Mika Wooden.

An experience Wooden knows all too well.

“It was my first pregnancy. I was excited and thrilled I was going to be a parent, and then this happened,” said Wooden.

She says it started off as a shock, but then:

“It changed into the pain of losing a child,” said Wooden.

So to know she’s supported by Ink Therapy, Wooden says it’s helping her cope and get through one of the most difficult times in her life.

“It brings a little bit of peace to my heart,” said Wooden.

“We really wanted to show support to all of those who have been through such a tragic event,” said Warren.

Warren says hosting specials like this one in the shop is just the right thing to do.

“The community has been so great to us in supporting our business since we opened,” said Warren. “I feel like it’s only right; I think all the artists would agree it’s only right to try to give back as much as we can.”

So he hopes Ink Therapy will live by its name and make a difference in the lives of others one tattoo at a time.

“We want to take your life and your experiences and turn it into art and help you to get through or get over whatever experience you’ve dealt with, or whatever you’re struggling with,” said Warren.
