EAST LANSING, MI (WLNS) – A Fowlerville man who is a resident with Sparrow Health and Michigan State University faces multiple charges of sex crimes.
While he has not been officially arraigned, MSU Police say 32 year-old Michael Phinn faces the following charges:
One count of 1st degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
3 counts of 2nd degree Criminal Sexual Conduct
2 counts of Gross Indecency
4 counts of Aggravated Indecent Exposure
The arrest comes after reports of sexual assaults at the MSU Neurology Clinic. According to police, the assault complaints do not involve patients at the clinic.
According to MSU online records, the 32 year-old said his hometown is Grand Blanc. He also got both of his bachelor’s degrees from MSU in 2008, before getting his D.O. in 2016.
Both MSU and Sparrow are reacting to the allegations. MSU said Phinn was suspended as of September 25th.
“University leadership is aware of a police investigation into reports of sexual assault at the MSU Neurology Clinic,” an MSU spokeswoman said. “The university has zero tolerance for sexual misconduct and violence, and it is important that anyone feel comfortable coming forward with concerns. We will use all available resources to investigate the situation and support those involved.”
In a statement Monday, Sparrow said the resident is on unpaid administrative leave pending results of the investigation.
“These are serious and concerning allegations, and Sparrow Health System pledges its full cooperation with law enforcement authorities,” the statement said. “The safety and well-being of our Caregivers, Patients and visitors are a top priority. We are unable to provide any further information or comment at this time.”
