Kelly Stafford, wife of Detroit Lions Quarterback Matthew Stafford, announced today that she will undergo brain surgery to remove a tumor.

Stafford posted the news on her instagram account. She says an MRI found a tumor on her cranial nerves, with her doctor calling it a neuroma or vestibular schwannoma.

Stafford wrote, “Within the last year, I began to notice things that I thought was just me getting older,” she wrote. “I would show my girls how to do a front roll or twirl in ballet class and immediately feel dizzy & off balance… Things that I had been doing my entire life were now, all of a sudden, difficult.”

Kelly added that she is “completely terrified of brain surgery” and of ” being absent from my kids.”

Kelly and Matthew are parents to three young girls.

Her surgery is expected to take place in the next two weeks.
