Mayor Schor announces that Lansing, East Lansing and Ingham County is ‘effectively ending’ area veteran homelessness.
“We owe it to our veterans to help them find a place to call home,” stated Mayor Schor.
In 2014, the City of Lansing accepted President Obama’s Mayor’s Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness.
As a result, the Veteran Services Coordination Committee was formed with a goal of permanently housing veterans as quickly as possible.
Recent data shows a 50% reduction in homeless veterans in Ingham County, with those remaining engaged in proven programs that lead to housing.
“We know there are still homeless veterans in our area, but we now have the systems in place to quickly identify and house them, and to ensure their homelessness is rare, brief and non-recurring,” stated Dr. Joan Jackson Johnson, City of Lansing Human Relations & Community Services Director.
