Michigan State Police multi-state distracted driving project results in 1600 citations

The Ohio State Highway Patrol issued 271 citations related to distracted driving from April 14th to the 20th.

The six-state trooper project included Michigan State Police and resulted in 1600 traffic tickets.

In 2017, over 20,000 crashes in Michigan involved distracted driving, according to Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center. The 2017 crashes resulted in 72 fatalities.

In 2016, there were 12,788 distracted driving crashes resulting in 43 fatalities.

The multi-state partnership project was aimed at increasing highway safety by targeting activities that potentially distract a person.
