AG Nessel vows to work on shutting down Line 5

Michigan

Attorney General Dana Nessel says she’ll work to shut down the Line 5 pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac, if it comes down to it.

Activists are worried about the condition of the oil pipeline, saying it could devastate the Great Lakes if it leaks.

Nessel issued a brief statement this morning, saying while she respects Governor Whitmer’s efforts to resolve the issue, she’ll use every resource available to her office to shut Line 5 down and protect the great lakes.

“I respect the Governor’s effort to find a swift and straightforward resolution to this issue, but if unsuccessful I will use every resource available to our office to shut down Line 5 to protect our Great Lakes.”
