The state of Michigan’s government offices will remain closed through Thursday at 10 p.m. because of the cold.
The state describes them as “historic emergency weather conditions.”
The closing follows a visit by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to the state’s Emergency Operations Center this morning.
Non-essential employees should not report to work on Thursday.
High temperatures are not expected to reach double digits until Friday. The cold and wind chill are making it dangerous for people to go out.
This includes Secretary of State branch offices. All hearings and appointments for Thursday have been cancelled.
The Secretary of State’s office says people should check before going to an office on Friday.
Schools across the state have also closed for Thursday, including Michigan State University, because of the cold.
