The Attorney General’s Office launched a class-action lawsuit after receiving hundreds of consumer complaints for a local gym. Todays judgement requires Family Fitness to pay $220,000 over the next three years.
People who filed complaints against the gym are entitled to a share of $190,000 that is set aside for consumers affected by the company’s poor business practices.
The Michigan Attorney General sent out a statement which read in part that it is not too late for consumers who can prove they have also been harmed by any of the 12 Family Fitness locations to file complaints and be included in these considerations.
The judgement does not allow Family Fitness to charge over $75 in cancellation fees on any membership or personal training agreements. They also can not charge any fees on memberships or personal training that are part of a drawing or event prize.
