There will be no Great Lakes Folk Festival in East Lansing this year.
A spokesperson for MSU says “there are no plans to restart the Great Lakes Folk Festival.”
A statement to 6 news goes further to say “the university [is] exploring larger community conversations around the arts and festivals in the region.”
The award-winning festival was produced by the MSU Museum’s Michigan Traditional Arts Program and took place in downtown East Lansing. The festival showcased music, dance and culture from across America and around the world.
The Michigan State University Museum worked year-round to develop this program that reflected the immense variety and vitality of art, skill, knowledge, and wisdom of cultural heritage for the public.
The Great Lakes Folk Festival offered a unique mix of music and dance stages as well as demonstrations of traditional arts, storytelling, food, an arts marketplace, and many activities for kids.
