The Michigan DNR and Bob Ross Inc. are partnering on the Happy Little Trees tree-planting program in state parks.

The program fills a growing need for helping campgrounds recover from forest pests like the emerald ash borer by planting native trees.

Inspired by the state parks centennial celebration, the partnership is looking for volunteers to help plant this year’s family of Happy Little Trees.

Although the dates have not been finalized, locations have been chosen. Each volunteer will get a Happy Planting T-shirt featuring Bob Ross.

Bob Ross was an American painter, art instructor and television host who shared his love for painting and the environment with millions of viewers on the public television show, “The Joy of Painting.”
