Kelly Stafford is never going to forget this Easter.
The wife of Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford left the hospital Sunday and is recovering at home following a 12-hour surgery last week.
Stafford was diagnosed earlier this month with a benign tumor called an acoustic neuroma that was sitting on her cranial nerves.
She was experiencing bouts of dizziness and vertigo, and an MRI revealed the tumor.
In a Facebook post, she said the surgery Wednesday was originally expected to take 6 hours but took double the time due to complications.
Neurosurgeons found an abnormal vein during the surgery that created problems.
She says she thankful for the support, thoughts and prayers as she adjusts to her new normal.
Matthew Stafford has not participated in off-season activities with the Lions so he can tend to his wife and family.
The team says it is not clear how much time he will miss but there is no pressure on him to return.
