Recently several complaints from a caller who claims to be Greg Harris from the sheriff's office and is claiming either a law has been broken or the person receiving the call had a loved one arrested.

The statement goes on to say "if this happens to you, hang up the phone immediately without confirming any information, and contact the agency in which they claim to be calling from to verify what you have been told"
The Ingham County Sheriff's Office also provided two additional tips to help people from being scammed. First, always use a directory for the agencies phone number and not the number the caller may provide you. Second, do not give money to people you don't know over the phone or computer.
