The Ionia Department of Public Safety has identified the man who died in a trailer fire early Wednesday morning.

His name is Larry Leroy Starks.

The deputy director of Ionia Department of Public Safety says the 75-year-old lived in the trailer where he was found, and that his death appears to be related to the fire. Investigators say Starks had a dog and a cat that are still unaccounted for.

The department responded to the fire along the 200 block of Hanline Street just before 1 a.m. on Wednesday. They arrived to find flames rising from the mobile home. Firefighters found the body after they put out the flames.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but detectives say there’s no reason to suspect foul play.

People posted thoughts and tributes to Starks on the Ionia Department of Public Safety’s Facebook page. One post by Kasey Schultz-Zeigler said “He was the kindest loving guy ever. He loved my kids and always came to visit then.”
