Governor Gretchen Whitmer appears to be facing some strong headwinds as she tries to sail her plan to hike the gas tax by 45 cents.
According to a poll released today by the Marketing Resource Group, 75 percent of Michigan voters oppose her plan to pay for road repairs by raising the gas tax.
Pollsters found that every geographic area and every demographic and political group of voters opposed the measure.
21 percent of the voters polled supported the plan, with that strongest showing in the Detroit area.
Republicans were the strongest opposition, with 89 percent against the Whitmer plan.
The news wasn’t much better among Democrats, where 59 percent opposed the hike with 36 percent backing the idea.
