Skubick: Poll has mixed report card for Whitmer

Michigan

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is more popular in the Detroit area than she is in Mid-Michigan and her job approval numbers are all over the lot in the latest EPIC-MRA survey.

Gretchen Whitmer was elected governor with 53 percent of the vote but now that she’s been in office for almost three months, the polling data suggests she does not enjoy that same 50 percent support in most voting subgroups.

Here’s her profile of the citizens who give her the best job approval rating.

65 percent are liberals and 60 percent are from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

By comparison, her support in mid-Michigan is 37 percent positive and 38 percent negative.

  • She gets 42 percent on college campuses.
  • 65 percent of seniors over the age of 65

Only 31 percent of the union households give her good marks while he support in non-union homes is five points higher.

She has more support among African-American voters than white voters.

Men and women equally support her.

She is strongest with those earning less than $25,000 a year.

She has 57 percent from Democrats, but only 25 percent of the Independent voters give her good marks.

Her weakest support is Up North, where only 35 percent give her good marks, while 66 percent of those Up North like the job President Trump is doing.
