UPDATE: Child shot during argument in Jackson County

UPDATE: Blackman-Leoni Township authorities arrived at the 400 block of Barrett Avenue to find a 2-year old boy who had been shot in the face and arm with a shotgun.

The suspect and the child’s mother had been in a domestic dispute. The mother put her child in her vehicle and started to leave when the suspect came out with a shotgun and shot the child through the rear-passenger door’s window.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle, but officers found the suspect and vehicle a short-time later.

The 32-year-old man will be at Jackson County Jail while the report will be sent to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The victim was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in critical condition.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police in Jackson County are investigating the shooting of a two-year-old boy during an apparent domestic disturbance.

According to our media partners at MLive, police were called to a home on the 400 block of Barrett Avenue just after 12:30 p.m.

Blackman-Leoni Township Police say the child was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

According to preliminary investigations, a man and a woman were arguing when a shotgun was fired, hitting the child.
