The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency reached a major milestone in its Veteran-Friendly Employer Program, 18 months ahead of schedule.

The program reached its 300th employer with an original goal of only 250 employers by September of 2020. The program employs more than 29,000 veterans.

Of the 300 Veteran-Friendly Employers, about 25 of them are in the Lansing area.

The program certifies employers as either gold, silver, or bronze based on recruiting, training, and helping veterans stay employed.

Consumers Energy, DTE Energy, General Motors, Michigan Department of Transportation, Michigan State Police, Prestige Engineering, Quicken Loans, Roush and Whirlpool Corporation are all certified gold for keeping 75 percent or more of veterans hired over a one year period

Additionally, 25 companies are silver-level employers and 266 employers have received bronze-level certification.
