LANSING, Mich (WLNS) - Two shopping malls in the Lansing area and one in Jackson are losing a major anchor store.
The Younkers stores at the Lansing, Meridian and Jackson's Westwood Malls will be closed by the end of summer after a bankruptcy court approved the sale of parent company Bon-Ton to a liquidation group.
A total of 212 Bon-Ton stores will be liquidated by August 31.
“We are certainly disappointed with the outcome, but this is an opportunity to continue to evolve our properties through transformative anchor redevelopments,” said Stacey Keating, director of public relations and corporate communications for CBL Properties, which owns the Meridian Mall.
The company, which also operates stores under the names Carson's, Herberger's, Bergner's and Boston Store, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February.
Mall owners say they are actively searching for new tenants to fill the gaps created by the store closings.
