Michigan officials are looking into plans to improve voting rights for members of the military and their families.
Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson announced the plans as part of National Military Appreciation Month.
“Currently, military service members and their families in Michigan face a series of obstacles in participating in our democracy,” Benson said. “As your secretary of state I am committed to better serve those who serve and protect us every day.”
Benson’s proposal includes allowing military members and their spouses overseas to return their ballots electronically as well as improving ballot tracking tools for military and overseas voters.
The plans will require the help of lawmakers as well as action by the Department of State.
