Motorcycle accidents raise talk about safety

After multiple motorcycle accidents this past week, motorcycle safety is becoming a more relevant topic. Experts are stressing the safety for cyclists and also other drivers.

“We lose approximately 140 motorcyclists every year in Michigan and we encourage them to be safe whenever they can… wearing a helmet, by wearing high visibility gear or by taking a class or by staying sober, we can reduce those numbers,” said communications manager for the highway safety planning Kendall Wingrove.

Scott Dick, a Clinton county resident, and someone who had been riding motorcycles for 35 years, says that just being aware of your surroundings can make a huge difference.

“Just drive slow and look around you, always know your surroundings and wear proper helmets and glasses,” said Dick.

Safety classes are available around the area through colleges, business, etc.
