Multiple arrests and fires in East Lansing after Final Four loss

East Lansing police arrested 23 people, including nine MSU students, on felony and misdemeanor charges after the Spartans fell to Texas Tech on Saturday night.

A crowd of more than 1000 people came to the Grand River Ave. and Woodmere Ave. intersection in East Lansing after the game. According to police, the crowd began tearing down road signs and throwing glass bottles into the air. Two street signs and one police van were damaged.

Of the 23 arrests, only one was a felony charge. Police also responded to 10 small fires overnight along with the East Lansing Fire Department.

Officers were able to break up the crowd without using tear gas or other chemical agents.

Seven other law enforcement agencies assisted with crowd control Saturday night.
