LANSING, MI (WLNS) – Today is National Service Day, a day to recognize people across the country for the selfless work they do in their own communities.
Here at home, Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is doing his part as well. Today Mayor Bernero will join more than 2,000 mayors across the country in celebrating National Service Day. In honor of the day, Bernero will attend two events this morning. The first will honor more than 5000 senior corps members in the greater Lansing area. The senior corps supports the capital area by volunteering in schools, local non-profits, nursing homes, healthcare agencies and many more.
The second will honor 26 AmeriCorps members stationed in Ingham County. AmeriCorps members work in partnership with the Greater Lansing Food Bank, the Allen Neighborhood Center, the Refugee Development Center and in local schools.
Today is also known as Mayors’ Day in some places.
