UPDATE: Acting Deputy DHS Secretary follows boss out the door

UPDATE: Today, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan was sworn-in to lead the Department of Homeland Security as the Acting Secretary.

The ceremony took place at the new DHS Headquarters at St. Elizabeth’s.

The announcement was posted on the official DHS Twitter page on Tuesday April 10th at 2:41 PM.

ORIGINAL STORY: Outgoing Homeland Security Secretary Nielsen took to her official Twitter account to announce that the acting deputy secretary has offered President Trump her resignation.

The acting deputy secretaries resignation would be effective tomorrow.

Former Sec. Nielsen included “I am thankful for Claire’s expertise, dedication & friendship & am filled w gratitude for her exemplary service to DHS & to our country,” in her three part tweet.

Secretary Nielsen posted on April 7th that she “agreed to stay on as secretary through Wednesday, April 10th to assist with an orderly transition to ensure that key DHS missions are not impacted.”
