New law to create Michigan “Office of School Safety”

Michigan will now have an “Office of School Safety” to help protect children across the state.

That’s after Governor Rick Snyder signed a series of bills that would also require districts develop emergency plans.

The new laws would also require schools to work with local law enforcement to make sure the schools are as safe as possible; they would also require districts to review building plans and consult with law enforcement to keep safety in mind when building a new school or renovating an existing one.

“These bills will ensure school districts and local law enforcement are working together to create stable learning environments for Michigan’s students while also having the necessary procedures in place to protect them,” Snyder said.
