UPDATE: 20-year-old Saginaw man identified in weekend crash

WILLIAMSTOWN TOWNSHIP - UPDATE: Officials confirmed this morning that the driver who died was 20-year-old James Matthew Stewart of Saginaw, MI.

Stewart was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

ORIGINAL STORY - One person is dead after an early morning car crash in Ingham County.

It happened around 8:40 a.m. near the intesection of Meridian Road and Grand River in Williamstown Township.

Meridian Township officials say a vehicle heading west crashed into one heading east. There was only one person in each car. One of the drivers died, but police did not say which one.

They would also not release the name of the driver because their family had not been notified yet.

Police are asking anyone with information to get in touch with them, as well. Meridian Township police oversee Williamstown Township. Anyone with information can call 517-853-4800.
