Owner of Lansing party bus company behind bars, tried to escape from jail

CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. (WLNS) - A man who was investigated for his party bus rental website,, is behind bars after trying to escape from jail.

6 News first told you about Christopher Staggs last October. He started several websites that market themselves as party bus rental agencies.

At the time, Staggs was being investigated for several things by several law enforcement agencies, including not having proper insurance and possible fraud.

According to the Clinton County Sheriff's Office - one of the law enforcement agencies investigating Staggs - not all of those investigations produced charges, but prosecutors were able to charge Staggs with having no insurance in December 2017.

Court documents show a jury found Staggs guilty of that charge in June 2018.

Clinton County Sheriff's officials say, it was while waiting to be sentenced for that charge, that Staggs tried to escape from jail.

He also requested a different attorney after losing the No Insurance case.

Due to these things, the sentencing on his No Insurance conviction was stalled, and he is currently in Clinton County Jail on the new Escape charge. That's a 2 year felony.

6 News reached out to both Staggs' former and current attorneys on Friday for comment, and is waiting to hear back.

The Clinton County Prosecutor's Office told 6 News his next hearing date on the Escape charge is August 2.
