Police release ID of MSU student killed in apartment shooting

News

We now know the name of the MSU student who was shot and killed last week at an apartment complex in East Lansing.

Isai Berrones was 22 years old and a senior at MSU studying food sciences.

We spoke with one of Berrones’ classmates who told us more about his personality and sense of humor in the classroom.

“We were just able to have some really cool conversations,” senior Austin Buss said. “He was kind of quiet but he started opening up quite a bit once I got to know him better. Um, really funny, just joked around a lot with me and um, yeah we just got to hang out quite a bit.”

Police told us that the victim’s family was able to come to Lansing in the last few days and they’re making arrangements to take his body back to his hometown in Texas for a funeral.

We also learned that while they still haven’t named a suspect, police do have some leads that they are investigating. They have not released details as to what lead to the shooting.

“We’ve been able to develop leads and do multiple interviews with witnesses and people that have knowledge of the case,” East Lansing Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez said. “And from that information we’ve been able to develop good information that is leading us down the road to a positive ID of a suspect.”

The Deputy Chief also re-stated that the general public is not at risk.

We’ll be here for you with any updates as police continue to investigate, so stay with 6 News for the latest developments.
