Police searching for details in fake 9-1-1 call in Ionia County

News

IONIA COUNTY, MI (WLNS) – Police in Ionia County are looking for a man who they say called 9-1-1 claiming he killed his girlfriend and her two kids. Thankfully it was all a hoax but that phony call could come with some various serious charges.

On Sunday state troopers, Portland police officers and Ionia County Sheriff’s deputies all went to the home just outside of Portland. When they got there the house was empty. Police say this crime is called swatting. It is a fake 9-1-1 call meant to draw a response. According to officials, calls like this put people in danger because they tie up first responders on a fake crime scene when they could be responding to real emergencies. Officials say they are investigating the call and will seek charges against the person responsible.

If you know anything about the incident, call state police at 989-352-8444.
