PORTLAND, Mich (WLNS) – One year ago today a F-1 twister tore through the city of Portland, leaving pieces of homes and businesses scattered around and people in shock.
The road to rebuilding has been a long, and tough one.
Tonight the city of Portland will come together to celebrate that rebuilding.
But before we look forward let’s take a look back.
6 News was on the scene minutes after the tornado touched down in Portland one year ago.
We watched as people collected their memories and belongings from the streets and tried to salvage what was left of their homes and businesses.
At least 70 buildings were destroyed in the chaos totaling up to over $3 million in damage.
Tonight the Portland Area Ministerial Association will gather to celebrate the rebuilding process.
That gathering is happening at “Church Hill” one of the four area churches that sustained heavy damage.
The church sits right on the corner of Smith and Bridge Streets and starts tonight at 7:00 p.m.
