Proposal one passed and now people may be thinking, now what?
Law enforcement and the Executive Director of MI Legalize, Jeffery Hank, told us that the wait for recreational marijuana shops, stores and retail of marijuana won’t happen for another year. This is because people who want to get their recreational marijuana license must have a medical marijuana license for at least two years and then wait another year before they can get approved for the new license.
But Hank says he’s hopeful it could happen sooner than everyone thinks.
“It could be done, it’s not that there’s really too many new rules that need to be created for adult use, there’s a few things you know out there, but most of the rules have already been created for medical in terms of the products and labeling and similar systems of tracking that are going to be used for tax collection and everything…we’ve seen how long it’s taken to get medical marijuana done, so we thought maybe a year was maybe being optimistic,” said Hank.
Hank also explained that the recreational license would be very similar to a medical marijuana license in terms of growing, processing, transporting and testing.
