According to the National Safety Council, distracted driving crashes kill nine Americans and injure 100 every day.

IN a press release, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration or MIOSHA, says roadway accidents are most common around construction sites and Nine of the 38 workplace fatalities in Michigan in 2018 involved workers being struck by vehicles.

“Accidents in or near the roadway are both a statewide and national problem,” said Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Director Orlene Hawks.

A new State Emphasis Program on roadway accidents will increase the priority of inspections related to construction roadway safety to reduce health hazards associated with roadwork.

Additionally, MIOSHA is creating a public service campaign to raise awareness on the issue.
