Residents react to armed robbery homicide at Jackson party store

Police in Jackson say they’re searching for three men who walked into a city party store and fatally shot the store clerk.

It happened around 9pm at the Log Cabin store on the 500 Block of 4th Street.

According to police, the three men went into the store looking to get away with some money.

Police say, once inside, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the store clerk in the neck.

He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

There are always two employees working at the party store, but since it was the night before a holiday, only one was on staff, and he was shot to death.

“We all pay attention to what goes around, if we hear any commotion, we come out. But there was nobody here last night, says store employee, Edward Beebe.

The victim wasn’t even scheduled to be working, he was filling in for another employee.

“There was actually customers that came in and saw him, they went back there and said, “hello, hello”, no-one was there, they came back out and kept saying hello, then they said they noticed that he was laying behind the counter,” says Greg Mackinder.

Mackinder, a long time store customer, says the victim, who’s name has not been released, was 31 years old.

“Every time I come into this store, he would always try to show me something or teach me something. He told me seek means learning, and he was just a good spirit and I’m going to miss him. I’m going to miss him coming into this store,” says Devon Glenn.

The whole neighborhood is shaken after learning about the tragic loss of someone who touched their lives every day.

“He was always very polite, smiling, very kind hearted man, and it’s just very tragic to think that it had to happen here,” says Mackinder.

Dave Singh, Co-Owner of the party store, says he too, is shaken over this.

In the 16 years the store has been there, Singh says, nothing like this has ever happened before.

“Not even a punch, nobody got in a fight with nobody, and one day, just last night I loose somebody,” says Singh.

Tonight, employees, customers, and police are searching for answers as they continue to search for the three men responsible.

Store employees with a message for them, hoping they’ll come forward.

“Just for his family, please turn yourself in,” says Beebe.
